Answer:

Hi there

I am an Australian Kinesiologist/sports therapist

Overtightness in the rotary muscles of the cervical spine is the usual cause of this problem.
These little muscles (rotatores brevis and longus) run from the spinous process of one vertebra to the transverse process of the one below (Brevis) or the second one below (longus). When you turn your head the rotary muscles on one side tighten up and on the opposite side lenghten.
This is called antagonistic facilitation. In your case this is not ocurring correctly resulting in a click.
Massage the area between the 2nd and 3rd rib (on both sides) about 2-3" from the sternum will reset the energy to these muscles.

If you have a friend or partner who can apply deep pressure over the musce at the base of the neck, about 2" off centerline, with the thumb or elbow, get him/her to do that once a day for a few days.
It relaxes the upper trapezius muscle wchich could also be responsible for this problem.
The upper trapezius gets very tight when you become dehydrated, so make sure you drink plenty of clean unchlorinated water.

Good luck.
