groin pain when perform static active flexibility

Question: groin pain when perform static active flexibility

My daughter (11-year-old) is a figure skater. Recently when she did side pick up (straight pick up left leg beside her left ear) on ice, afterwards, she then released support hand (require static active flexibility). She felt sharp pain at groin area. The pain has been stay one week now, and she can not do lay over or side pick up release hand again. Do I need to see a doctor?

Hi there

I am an Australian Kinesiologist/sports therapist

It looks like your daughter has pulled the adductor. This muscle runs from the pubic bone to the inner edge of the femur and stops below the knee on the inside of the shinbone. I would suggest massaging from the center of the muscle to the origin and insert. This has a strenghtening effect on the muscle. There are a couple of neuro lymphatic massage points on the back just below the lower tips of the shoulderblades. do these for 30 seconds 6 times a day. The muscle is controlled by a nerve exiting at L1 level. Massaging on the spine and on the side of the spine at that level will be painfull but beneficial. Make sure she drinks plenty of Warm clean water (avoid chlorinated water) before and during her routines. I feel her problem is one of dehydration. This will cause the muscles to go tight and tear easier.

Good luck

Hans

Thank you very much for your help. Your answer not only gave us some useful information about treatment, but also pointed one of possible causes. It really helps us to prevent injuries in future. My daughter always spends 20 minutes to warm up and stretch before step on ice, but we never think dehydration will be a cause for muscles injuries. She will have NISA level 8 tests this Friday, which she needs for her qualification of British Championship this year. It is clear she can not stop training recently. I will let you know if she benefits from massage. Thanks again.

Hi there

If I can be of further use my Email address is: chomann@skymesh.com.au
The service is free. We run a Natural and Spiritual healing center in the mountains in Victoria.
I have always been interested in skating although I have to admit I have never treated a skater yet. Most of my clients ar more into contact sports like boxing, football and the likes.

Hope to be able to be of further use

Good luck

Hans
